For Rotterdam natives and people in the vicinity thereof, Bird is without a doubt tha place to be on the 27th of May. Simply cause Damon G. Riddick a.k.a. Dâm Funk is about to raise tha motherf*ckin roof!!
Known as Los Angeles’ “Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” Dam-Funk represents the citizens of the Funkmosphere. Headquartered in the Leimert Park section of L.A., Dãm spent the last few years cultivating a musical renaissance rooted in the early-’80s styles known as Boogie, Modern Soul and Electro-Funk.
It was never hard to feel tha flevah of Mr. Funk’s 80′s groove, but I was officially hooked when he hit us up with the visuals for “Mirrors”, taken from his album Toeachizown.
Needless to say that after that everything Dam Funk was a good reason for a blog post. By then most fans were aware of Dam Funk’s keyboard, production and mixing skills. But I think he definitely left us speechless when he decided to do his rendition of Human League’s “Things that dreams are made of” for Dr. Martens 50th anniversary … like it or not he sure as hell nailed the spirit of the 80′s with that one.
I can go on and on about past productions, but I think it’s better when you actually experience the genius of Damon G. Riddick. The best way to go about that would be to repost something that demonstrates his production, keyboard as well as his vocal skills… and of all the freebies the most recent, the Innafocuseddaze EP, pretty much showcases all of his talents. The best part is that you can still download the all of tracks to hold you down till upcoming Sunday!!
Even though his first release dates back to 2008, the abovementioned does not even begin to cover his body of work (just type his name in our search box and you’ll see what I’m talking about). Since this is shaping up to be an event that should not be missed … here are the details …

Strange Fruit 7th Anniversary ft. Marcellus Pittman (Detroit USA) …

DOWNLOAD: MAR – SEEING HER NAKED EP
This can actually be a really short post, cause frequent Strangefruitmusic visitors already know that whatever Mar”s name is attached to …. is going to be a snooth musical experience.
I’ve been keeping an eye on his “Seeing her Naked” release ever since the track ”Our Attempt” was poppin up all over the net. But since it made me anxious and impatient, I decided that no Strangefruitmusic reader should experience the agony of waiting for this musical gem. Instead of enticing you with just one track, Noggy decided to let Mar overwhelm you with the full release of “Seeing her naked” (believe me ..you will be thankful after streaming).
Yep Noggy here … hitting you up with Moodymann’s latest. These tracks are meant to hypnotize and not analyze, so I’m going to keep this short. It’s an 8 track detroit house exclusive banger, provided by Scion AV!! You can get it for free here.

We knew something was up as soon as we heard the first “analogue monsta mix” way back in 2011. Since I hold both Tokimonsta and Suzi Analogue in high esteem … I am not surprised their first collaborative effort turned out so well. Suzi’s NNXTAPE is still on very heavy rotation and Tokimonsta’s “Darkest Dim“ still has this surreal feel to it, that makes you want to listen to it over and over again. Needless to say I am anxious to hear a lot more from Anologue Monsta, a merge of two ladies with their own distinctive take on electronic music.
I have to say that the blend of undividual styles is more accessible than the electronic composition Suzi Analogue and Tokimonsta come up with when they produce solo. But maybe that is because I only have this track to go on. The thing is that you’ll find that in this case accessability does not mean it ain’t totally fresh …

Almost forgot to remind ya’ll to cop the latest Georgia Anne Muldrow ”Seeds”. Produced by Madlib there was 99.9 percent change this release would turn out to be a musical master piece. The blend of the slightly diverse aproach to music of Georgia Anne Muldrow and Madlib turned out to be a stroke of genius. The result is absolutely worthy of a spin.

If you are not familiar with Jai Paul … my bad, cause I failed to introduce you to this London based artist last year. In Jai Paul’s case the music is basically the only thing we have to go on. There seems to be an air of mystery surrounding this artist cause other than his singer songwriter and producer skills thereis not much I can tell you about him.
To fans he is best known for his 2010 release BSTU, the track that put him on the map (for me).
BSTU by Jai Paul
After the 2010 smasher I hadn’t heard much from Jai Paul. That is up until 13 hours ago … Out of nowhere he hit fans up with a stream for his latest “Jasmine“. Even though it has a slightly different electronic feel, I’d have to say the man created another banger..

On the 29th of February the time has come to get acquainted with UK’s Submotion Orchestra.
Submotion Orchestra is a live 7-piece project from Leeds-based dubstep label Ranking Records, incorporating deep bass-driven grooves and dense textures in their progressive live dubstep sound. Needless to say that this is a performance you can’t miss.

Jennifer Lee a.k.a Tokimonsta has finally released a video for the standout track from last years “Creature Dreams EP” … “Darkest Dim”. Both the L.A. beatsmith,Tokimonsta and Gavin Turek, the girl who does the dreamy vocals are featured in the video. With the help of director Doug Chang a 3.26 minute dream adventure is created.
The story is that Tokimonsta (The Dream Curator) carefully manages the playlist of Gavin Turek’s (The Sleeper) dreams throughout the night using her grippers. When Tokimonsta accidentally breaks a dream card in half using her hand, she discovers a newfound possibility of remixing broken pieces of dream cards together to deliver Gavin the most beautiful dream she ever had.
You can find each and every possible detail of the video on darkestdim.blogspot.com ….
DOWNLOAD: JAMES BLAKE ‘S LIVE ALBUM
Even though 2012 is shaping up to be a wonderful year in music … I don’t mind looking back if it’s James Blake we are talking about. The British singer-songwriter, producer has come a long way since he started his musical career by releasing a string of impressive mainly dubstep oriented EP’s from his bedroom. He actually started his musical career when he was in his final year at Goldsmiths, University of London where he studied popular music.
Well it’s almost 3 years since his first release … an EP by the name of “Air and Lack Thereof” but I think it’s safe to say that after his selftitled debut album he has arrived. The album was, to say the least, slightly different from all his previous releases but was pretty well received nontheless.
I guess Mr. Blake wanted to show his ever growing amount of fans a little bit of gratitude when he provided them with the link for an unofficial FreeLP . The FreeLP can be downloaded from his Tumblr site and features live versions of I think every track on his album. kudos to Pinboardblog for providing us with the soundcloud stream.
Even though the whole release is worth while … track 14 “love what Happened Here” is the one that really floats my boat.
First of all I’d like to say …. all of you anywhere in the world who were smart enough to purchase their D’Angelo tickets in time …you lucky devils!!
I was watching the footage below yesterday and I am already jealous cause … D’Angelo is definitely BACK!!
Curious? … to see more of this electrifying performance head on over Okayplayer…
No … I have not been sleepin on this one. It just took me a while to post it … something you will probably not understand when you press play. But hey … better late then never.
Taken from Elzhi’s Elmatic … “Memory Lane”!!

I already hooked y’all up with Pardon the Stranger’s ”The Snow Is Gone” earlier this month. Now I have the visual treat for you. Featuring Kendal Good (vocalist) mostly and well … I don’t hate it.
It’s that time again. The time to let y’all know that something pretty fly is coming your way. After the critically acclaimed A-Free-Ka in 2009, Shafiq Husayn is crafting another musical masterpiece ” The LooP”. My expectations are high cause working with the likes of Jimetta Rose, J. Mitchell, Breezy Lovejoy, Mic Holden, and Thundercat just has to result in something really good.

Okay this is the sh* Noggy’s talking about!!
Hyuandai Veloster presents the RE:GENENRATION project. The project follows DJ Premier, Mark Ronson, Skrillex, Pretty Lights and The Crystal Method as they remix, recreate and re-imagine five traditional styles of music. From the classical perfection of the Berklee Symphony Orchestra to the bayou jams of New Orleans jazz, the five distinctive DJs collaborate with some of today’s biggest musicians to discover how our musical past is influencing the future.
First up one of my favorites … Mark Ronson. It’s obvious he took his task very seriously cause he is hitting us up with supreme quality music. In collaboriaton with Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Trombone Shorty and The Dap Kings he brings us “A la Modeliste”, a comtemperary blues track that will have clapping your hands and stomping your feet in no time.
Needless to say I am looking forward to more visuals of the RE:GENERATION project.
This should be interesting. Georgia Anne Muldrow’s upcoming release “Seeds” will be entirely produced by DJ/Producer/ Rapper Madlib. Since both artists are known to be creative geniuses when it comes to their own music, the blend of their music intellect can only result in something that will be a feast for your ears. The project will be available on March the 27th.
For now the tittle song of the album can be downloaded for free on the “Rolling Stone Magazine” website. Yep …2012 is already shaping up to be a wonderful year in music.
Filed under: Jazz, music, music video, nu soul | Tags: Black Radio, Chrisette Michelle, Musiq Soulchild, The Robert Glasper Experiment
I’ve already blogged two audio streams of The Robert Glasper Experiments upcoming album “Black Radio” on @Noggy73 … but to make sure that Strangefruit readers are in the know … you can stream the first visual of the album below. For more info on the album I suggest you hit up the Robert Glasper website.
The tracklist and the audiostreams featuring King and Erykah Badu are tangible proof that “Black Radio” is not only the music must-have of 2012 (eventhough it just started) but also a modern classic ..
Yep it looks like the 28th of February 2012 will be a beautiful day in music history.

If despite the beautiful visuals and Jesse’s warm soothing voice, like me, you are still wondering what a “Zoner” is. Team Boykins offers the following explanation … There is a misconception when one is lost in themselves because society can miss the truth behind it. This video is a pure introduction to Jesse Boykins III’s soul and takes a piece of his mind and displays it for the world be a part of. There is the reality of being alone, but also the desire to lust for something that inspires and assists the creation of beauty, a Zoner.
Can’t help it … now I love him even more …
