First of all I’d like to say …. all of you anywhere in the world who were smart enough to purchase their D’Angelo tickets in time …you lucky devils!!
I was watching the footage below yesterday and I am already jealous cause … D’Angelo is definitely BACK!!
Curious? … to see more of this electrifying performance head on over Okayplayer…
I am not gonna lie to you … I’ve been waiting for this video by my favourite new songstress who serves us some very old skool funk … Amalia. If you don’t have a clue who I am referring to I suggest you click here and find out what I’m talking about.
For those of you who are in tha know … peep Amalia’s latest “Freeze That” !!
I’ve been streaming this 80′s infused funkalicious tune for the past few days and now the time has come to be less selfish and without further ado present Rotterdam based DJ/Producer/Songwriter Azteka …
Inspired by Stevie Wonder, Zapp, The GAP Band, Daft Punk, Guy, Earth Wind & Fire and lots of other funky stuff Azteka has created his own distinctive sound that is best described as a fresh breeze that smoothly connects the past with the future.
Worth of warning before you stream …”i2i” is kind of addictive ..

I’m sure you remember Dam Funk’s latest project “Innafocuesdaze” which is available for free here. Below you’ll find some funkalicious visuals to go with the release …

The father of modern electro funk has done it again. He managed to give a new electronic flavah to the funk. Each song has its own distinct character, united by Dam-Funk’s dedication to constant musical experimentation. Enjoy!!

DOWNLOAD: GHOSTFUNK
Damnn Mr. Tannone did it again. The man has the ability to take an existing HIPHOP track, add an entirely different beat to it and have it sound so authentic that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was the original version.
First Max Tannone hit us up with Mos Dub and Dub Kweli and now he presents us with something slightly different from his previous projects … ”Ghostfunk”. Released in July 2011, Ghostfunk pairs one of his favorite hip-hop artists, Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah, with vintage African funk, high-life, and psychedelic rock music. Enjoy!!
Figured I have to keep y’all posted on this one. I promised this a while ago when provided you with the audio stream to “I’ll be Trippin“. If you happened to remember that one you might know Steve Arrington (former Slave front man) and Dam Funk are currently working on an album. More info on that here.
So what do you get when old generation funk collides with new generation funk ?…. Double funkaliciousness and that is something that sounds a little something like “Going Hard“.
Judging by the sound of this track Mr Arrington & Mr Funk are doing their part when it comes to keeping the funk alive. Don’t know about you but I can’t wait for this album to drop.

DOWNLOAD: DAM FUNK-TRUTH
It’s been a while since I’ve posted my first mix from the Oki-Ni mix series Resonance. But I guess it took a while cause this was the one I was waiting for Truth by Dam Funk.
For those of you who are familiar with Dam Funk it should come as no surprise that the mix is full of funkelectric and poppy 80′s tunes. The one thing that puts this mix in a very different league than anything we have ever posted before is the fact that the whole thing is comprised of tracks taken from original wax pressings. In Mr. Funk’s words …. No mp3s or computer files were used for this mix, I own all of these records. No fake shit or fads; just the TRUTH.

So click here and you will be referred to the Tokyo Dawn Records website to grab the 411 on how to participate. Please .. be quick about it .. cause the contest runs till the end of March. Dammnn where do I start. Just finished a full listen of this funkafied new release that will be available on the 4th of March 2011 via Tokyo Dawn Records.
Even though Art Slave by Amalia is an album full of brand new tracks … most of it feels like a trip down memory lane.
Life’s a Dance(Nu Opo Swing mix) by Amalia
If you really miss the “Chaka Khan” without Rufus or if you are still in mourning for the late Teena Marie … you can let it all go now. The self proclaimed airbreather, ventriloquist, body extortionist and most important … off da hook Swedish vocalist Amalia Townsend is bringing some old skool flavah to our 21st century ears. With Swedish funk extraordinaire Opolopo on production Art Slave contains all the elements of the 80′s and 90′s funk. The fact is that if I didn’t know about the releasedate I would have started crate digging for this one because apart from some electronic remixes in the end you cannot tell it dropped in 2011… it feels that authentic.
Of course if you can’t wait to get down to this and groove to tha boogie you can also go for the electronic pre-release available here but I’m in fact comtemplating of buying a record player (after all those years without) because I would just love to have this in vinyl.

Hmmm really dig this. Cause eventhough it’s totally RJD2 for some reason it’s also totally different and therefore very interesting.
Introducing RJD2′s or better yet The Insane Warior’s latest project ..”We are the Doorways”. Now what exactly makes this release so interesting ? … Just the fact that the inspiration behind this creation happens to be horror and sci-fi film scores of the wonderfully fruitful period of 1976-1984. The musical result of this unusual perspective are a lot of electronical tunes which burst into something that could be anything from jazzy to funky to pshychedelic … but eitherway always unexpected. This musical masterpiece is available on the RJD2 bandcamp.
If now you are curious about what the abovementioned could possibly sound like. Hit the play button below and stream the video to the track “The Water Wheel”.
Or even better stream the full release below and if you dig do not forget to download “Then you hear footsteps” which is downloadable for free till it reaches the bandcamp download limit of course … anyways enjoy!!

In my quest for good music there is only one essential lesson I’ve learned…follow everybody you consider to have exceptionally good taste. So big up for Miles Bonny cause I plucked this gem right of his facebook page.
The Somethin Old Somethin New Ep is just that. Basically lots of old and new stuff, by one of Strangefruitmusicblogs favourites Reggie B, with a predominantly old funkalicious flavour. All I know is that this is something you are going to nod your head to when you listen to it on your Ipod or when you have it blazing out of your stereo!! The non believers can stream the whole EP below and those familiar with everything Reggie B just click here.
