Usually I don’t have to cruise the net to find interesting music topics to keep y’all posted. But once in a while I get curious. This time my curiosity paid off and I can now present an electronic mix comprised of killer tracks by up and coming Turkish DJ Ahu. The compilation serves as a taster for the upcoming Sunsplash Festival in Antalya, Turkey. It’s the first one in a series of mixes you can take peek at on the Sunsplash Festival blog.
This particular Sunsplash Festival mix works like it’s suppose to because it gives me the urge to catch a plane … so can be where the action is from 22nd till the 29nd of May 2011.

Amazing video, Amazing voice, amazing producer!
Long tipped as a vocalist to watch, Ahu steps softly from the shadows of her lauded guest appearances to deliver To:Love.
It’s a captivating performance from the Turkish singer whose unique style might be found somewhere between traditional soul and the studied remove of the likes of Broadcast’s Trish Keenan. If there’s poignancy in her delivery, there is hope in the lyrics: it’s a song about the calm and freedom felt by lovers after they split. Her long-time friend and musical ally Paul White provides the subtle, ever-shifting backdrop, a nuanced electronic counterpoint to the more organic psychedelia of his recent …and the Purple Brain LP.

One of the ortist that keeps showing up in our playlist is Ahu (pictured above) . The young Turkish singer, full name Ahu Kelesoglu, has already built up quite a reputation for her collaborations with Flying Lotus, Mr Beatnick and others – it was she, under the name Dolly, who contributed the sublime, dusky vocal to Flying Lotus’s ‘Robertaflack’. At the moment she is focussing on her solo work inspired by house, techno, the golden age of jazz singers, European movie soundtracks and much else besides, we reckon Ahu’s really going to be one to watch in the months and years that lie ahead. This wonderful mixtape for FACT includes music from Brigitte Bardot, Daedalus and Matthew Herbert and two unreleased tracks by Portishead’s Beth Gibbons. Listen, read and enjoy.
