Brand new Project by Eric Lau with Floating Points, Fatima (Eglo), Rahel (Eric Lau/MDCL),Sarinah Leah ( TY), Finn Peters
Anthem time!!! Latest Hyperdub signings Funkineven just set our stylus on fire with two boogie power moves for Eglo! Thus far, we’ve only caught a couple of dazzling glimpses of this fella, namely on the ‘Kleer’ 12″ and a bumpin’ couple of beats for Fatima, but this 12″ is sure to set him out as the UKs finest answer to Dâm-Funk. With ‘She’s Acid’ he imagines a timewarp where the early 80s boogie funk scene plugs directly into ’87 acid. Maximized machine beats are subtly but painstakingly inched together for serious dancefloor impact while a FAT acid line fills in the gaps with pure luminous funk. This is Deadly! Meanwhile on the flip ‘Must Move’ sets another badass boogie joint, making nods to Kraftwerk, Computer Jay and Egyptian Prince. Heavyweight dance music. No sleepin!

We’ve been supporting Fatima already since we heard her collaberation with Funkineven at the Deviation show of Benji B. So being excited about this release is an understatement. After featuring on many of our favorite tracks from last year like Shafiq Husayns ‘Lil Girl’, TettoryBad’s ‘Unite’ and Funkineven’s ‘Kleer’ it s time for her to shine. This ep features productions of Dam Funk, Veebeo and Funkineven and is a great listen. Eglo records done it again. Now it s waiting on mr Funkineven and by what we heard in february at our Strange Fruit party we know for sure that his new release is gonna be a blast to!

EGLO records documentary with thanx to spinetv.net
There is this odd chance that I am starting to sound like a broken record …. scratched CD when it comes to STRANGE FRUIT party reviews. So I’ve decided that action speaks louder than words and to provide y’all with visual evidence that the B-Bash with FUNKINEVEN and FATIMA was off da hook!!
I know I am still buzzin from yesterdays eightiesinfused funkelectric DJ set and the kickass vocals….so now it’s time to see what you think. Okay…okay…okay I am aware that the visuals are kinda dark. But hey…..that is part of the underground vibe…the audio however…should be proof that skipping a STRANGE FRUIT party is not a very smart move to make.

On the 12th of December Strange Fruit presents Floating Points Alexander Nut and Fatima. But who are those people behind the music.
Fatima is somewhat of a mystery even though her voice is all over the place. You can cruise the net all you want but there is hardly any information available except for the occasional uploaded video or comment from yet another artist she has collaborated with who naturally only can express how magnificent her voice is. Let’s face it in order to come to Grand Hotel Central on the 12th of December that is in fact all you really need to know. That she is a very friendly young lady with a great taste in music and an equally great sense of humor…you can tell from her blog. All I know is that I can’t wait to see her perform but until then Shafiq Husayn’s Lil’ Girl will have to do!!

FunkinEven 1956 is the latest artist to join the ranks of Eglo records (Floating Points / Alexander Nut). Featuring the incredible vocal talent of Swedish born/Hackney bred artist Fatima (who some of you will recognize through collaborations with SA-RA’s Shafiq Husayn and Stones Throws Dam-Funk) Kleer is the title track taken from the forthcoming 4 track EP, which showcases Funkineven’s individual futuristic soul bounce. Being his debut release we felt it only right to go all out and press the vinyl up on clear wax, so hold tight for the finished product. Having already been heavily supported in it’s demo form by 1Xtra’s Benji B, the track is now finished, mastered and ready to take on the globe!
West Londoner FunkinEven creates sounds that inhabit a similar atmosphere to The Neptunes, Model 500 and Bugz In The Attic just as much as they do Cameo, NPG and Zapp. Take a listen and invent your own labels… we just know that everytime it’s been performed live it has most definitely “blown up tha spot!”. The full EP will also feature two B side tacks ‘Mad Swing’ and ‘You’, which where previously available as rough versions on the net but have now been finished, polished and mastered for your bumping enjoyment.
