Figured I have to keep y’all posted on this one. I promised this a while ago when provided you with the audio stream to “I’ll be Trippin“. If you happened to remember that one you might know Steve Arrington (former Slave front man) and Dam Funk are currently working on an album. More info on that here.
So what do you get when old generation funk collides with new generation funk ?…. Double funkaliciousness and that is something that sounds a little something like “Going Hard“.
Judging by the sound of this track Mr Arrington & Mr Funk are doing their part when it comes to keeping the funk alive. Don’t know about you but I can’t wait for this album to drop.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted my first mix from the Oki-Ni mix series Resonance. But I guess it took a while cause this was the one I was waiting for Truth by Dam Funk.
For those of you who are familiar with Dam Funk it should come as no surprise that the mix is full of funkelectric and poppy 80′s tunes. The one thing that puts this mix in a very different league than anything we have ever posted before is the fact that the whole thing is comprised of tracks taken from original wax pressings. In Mr. Funk’s words …. No mp3s or computer files were used for this mix, I own all of these records. No fake shit or fads; just the TRUTH.

Lovin the groove on this one … is either that or just the fact that talib kweli is doing his signature bar spitting. This track will be featured on MED’s forthcoming album.

Kutmah is a DJ from the Los Angeles scene known for his affiliation with Dublab and Low End Theory … that is, he was until a couple months ago when a pack of federal immigration agents raided his pad, threw him in the detention center in the desert, and eventually deported him to his resident country, UK.
We’d been talking about a Kutmah podcast for a while, and knowing that he’d be released someday, brought it up again via jail mail. Kutmah’s now a free man, living temporarily in Manchester UK, and finally got enough of his equipment together to put together this 50 minute mixtape.
Check for Kutmah at the August 14th Brainfeeder show in London, on the Kutmah Twitter, and read about his detention and deportation ordeal in an interview with Jeff Weiss over at LA Weekly.

Damnn I think September 2010 is going to be bad month for my savings account because there is yet another release scheduled to drop on the 28th of September. Aloe Blacc’s Good Things. Strange Fruit couldn’t be happier about this releasedate since it is 2 days before he’ll perform in Rotterdam Rotown (click here for more info in Dutch) and that means we will all be able to sing along. But for now the snippets on the Stones Throw website will have to do.

P.E. Hewitt’s Winter Winds is one of the rarest damn-good 70s jazz albums you could ever hope to come across. That’s a subtle, but important distinction. There are many rare jazz albums in every imaginable subgenre – funk, free, fusion… But Hewitt, a composer, arranger, vibraphonist, pianist and pilot, helmed a crack group of musicians and recorded adamn-good album … Without ever taking the time out to name his record company. His three albums – pressed in a maximum run of one hundred pieces per album – recently surfaced after Bay Area collector Chris Veltri re-discovered an old find and sent music detectives on the hunt. You see, Hewitt’s “Winter Winds” album so damn-good that neither a micro press nor forty years of silence could suppress its reemergence.
