Erykah Badu needs little introduction. Her seminal works like ‘Baduizm’ and the ‘New AmErykah’ series have successively upped the ante in terms of what can be done within the soul spectrum. Erykah fuses cosmic b-girl bravado with the forward-thinking sounds of producers like the Soulquarians, Madlib, and more recently, Academy grad Flying Lotus, to create a sonically varied body of work – selling millions of albums in the process. She also heads up her own record label, Control FreaQ, and has even been caught on the ones and twos recently, under her moniker DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown. Watch her tell the story to Eothen ‘Egon’ Alapatt at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 in Madrid.

I’m excited to drop the following interview on all of you … simply because an Amel Larrieux interview is a novelty there are not many floating on the net and she actually has some exciting news. Apart from her upcoming fifth studio album by the name of “Ice Cream Every Day” there is something else she’s working on. Curious?! … just stream the vid below!!
In March 2009, Larrieux released the songs “Orange Glow” and “Don’t Let Me Down” from her forth coming album,”Ice Cream Every Day“, to iTunes and other online music stores. I obviously missed all of that otherwise y’all would have been informed on that by now. But I’ve decided that there is one song I probably will have on repeat by the time the album drops cause “You’re the Shhh” just sounds like a pick up line I have to engrave into my mental Rolodex . I hope I can make it sound as hot as when Amel sings it.

Best thing about bandcamp you can always check out the content before you download and in our case check it out before you blog. Kinda like artist who are bold enough to experiment and especially female MC’s. ‘Nikki’ had the following to add to her project….
For the past few months I’ve been working to the sounds of some of Brainfeeder’s greatest masterminds. Nikki NTU vs. Brainfeeder “Medulla Dinner” is a seven track EP featuring production from Ras G, Samiyam, Teebs, and Flying Lotus. It was definitely a challenge to take on such amazing music so I wanted to go where I haven’t gone both lyrically and conceptually. A big thank you to King Texas, MeLo-X, Timothy Jack, Visionary Dary and the whole Galax team for the support and great work. I hope you enjoy!
