Renditions, remakes or covers are nothing new and the only way I can actually appreciate them is when artists manage to take an existing track and make it their own. Theophilus managed to do just that when he created his version of Nat King Cole’s Calypso blues.
A couple of months ago we featured a radio snippet of Theophilus version on the blog and the good thing is that although he added some flavour to give the track a more comtemporary sound, he kept it tastefully close to the original track. I didn’t think it possible to take this track to an even higher level but as it seems DJ Natural Self found a way to kick Theophilus’ Calypso Blues up a few nodges.
